Another summer has started, and so has the awesome selection of live music.
A couple of weeks ago I experienced the legacy of Bob Marley with such notables as Toshi Reagon, Citizen Cope, Alice Smith, Junior Marvin and Roots Radics. It was 2 1/2 hours of pure brilliance — I wish it was recorded. What i loved about it is the fact that I was introduced to artists who I may have had a passing knowledge of, and songs from Bob Marley’s that I truly didn’t know existed. Cope and Alice Smith’s cover of “Mellow Mood” sent me scrambling on Amazon trying to figure out what the hell this song was — and download it immediately.
Props to the Grammy Museum and the Kennedy Center for this new series (2012 brought us the Legacy of Marvin Gaye) focusing on artists whose music transcends all barriers.
I’ve also been introduced to Elan Noelle — a local singer/songwriter — who is destined to be noticed on the national stage in the coming months. I highly recommend checking her out. You can sample and — hopefully — download her new song Beautifully Invisible here
Unfortuantley, I missed the We Love Dilla concert with De La Soul AND the Souls of Mischief concerts this week (damn vet bill). But, I’m cool….
Next up?
Train and Michael Franti & Spearhead at Jiffy Lube Live with Bonnie (you know we LOVE Michael Franti if we’re going down to Jiffy Lube Live). And….speaking of Michael Franti — his new album All People finally drops on Tuesday, July 30th. If his new single, I’m Alive, is any indication — this album is going to be one huge party. I can’t wait.
And….I’m out
COOL!!! Thanks for the suggestions KSt.J
That’s what I’m here for. BTW — I hear that Alice Smith is giong to be in Atlanta in the next couple of weeks. Definitely check her out if you can. I think her voice alone will completely blow your mind
